A concerned citizen ready to step up and advocate for South Carolinians. Debbie began her journey as a farmer's daughter in Kansas and built a career spanning international trade, public health, and federal service — including work at the World Trade Organization. Now she's ready to bring decades of experience to Columbia.

Grew up on a wheat farm in Kansas, learning the values of hard work, community, and the challenges that define rural American life.
Academic Foundation
Master of International Policy Studies, Monterey Institute of International Studies, 1986. Bachelor of Health Science and Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene, Wichita State University, 1976.
Dental Hygienist — U.S.A., Australia, Switzerland, Nepal & Cambodia
Practiced dental hygiene for 10 years across four continents. Helped open the profession in Australia in the 1980s. Taught as a clinical instructor at a community college in Colorado. Volunteered with Global Dental Relief in Cambodia and Nepal, providing care to underserved children.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration — 17 Years
Consumer Safety Officer protecting the U.S. food supply, negotiating international food safety standards, and participating in U.S. delegations at the World Trade Organization. Engaged with health experts from nations across Europe, the Americas, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand.
U.S. Department of the Interior — 12 Years
Managed a multi-million-dollar initiative across 22 territorial and federal agencies. Coordinated coastal environmental efforts, assisted with the creation of a national park in American Samoa, and helped secure FEMA disaster relief for hurricane-affected communities. Served as Advisor to the President's Representative on Micronesia Compact negotiations.
Beaufort County Neighbor & Candidate
Proud Beaufort County resident since 2022, Turtle Tracker for Hilton Head beaches, and candidate for SC House District 120. After retiring, traveled over 10,000 nautical miles by Nordic Tug trawler along the Intracoastal Waterway and eastern U.S. waters, logging 400+ hours of scuba diving.

A Turtle Tracker for Hilton Head beaches, 400+ hours of scuba diving, and 10,000+ nautical miles on the Intracoastal Waterway. Debbie's commitment to the Lowcountry environment is personal and lifelong.

Married with an adult daughter who is an early childhood educator in special education and math — a daily reminder of what's at stake in our classrooms and why education is personal.
